Safe reunion
Getting them home without getting scammed
For owners and finders arranging a reunion. Lost-pet scams target people at their most desperate; here is how the process protects you.
Verification before contact
Before a match goes further, it is verified with security questions. If the owner recorded something distinguishing, such as a scar, a split ear or a patch of colour, the finder can be asked about it. Only someone standing with the animal can answer.
Anonymous messaging
Owners and finders talk through the platform. Your phone number, email and address are never exposed. Share contact information only when you are ready.
Meeting in person
Meet somewhere public and well lit, or at a vet clinic or shelter, and bring someone with you. Never pay a “finder’s fee” up front to someone you have not met with your animal.
Questions
Someone says they have my pet but wants money first. What should I do?
Do not pay up front. Use the security questions and anonymous messaging, and meet in a public place or at a shelter or vet.
When should I share my phone number?
Only when you are confident and ready. Until then, messaging stays anonymous.
