Lost pet help

Your pet is missing. Here is what to do first.

For anyone whose dog, cat or other animal has just gone missing. Work through these in order; most of them take minutes.

1. Search close to home, now

Many lost animals are found close to where they went missing, often hiding. Walk your street and the ones around it, calling calmly. Check under porches, in sheds and garages, and anywhere small and dark. Ask neighbours to look in theirs.

2. Report it on LnF Pet

Report your animal as lost. It is free, and always will be. Describe what matters for matching: species, size, colour, breed, and where and when you last saw them. LnF Pet never shows your phone number, email or address publicly; people reach you through the platform until you choose to share contact details.

If you have recorded something only your animal has, such as a scar, a split ear or an odd patch of colour, add it. It lets us ask a finder a question only someone standing with your animal can answer.

3. Call local shelters and animal control

Phone the shelters and animal control near you and give them your description. Ask how long they hold strays and visit in person if you can; descriptions over the phone are easy to miss.

4. Check your microchip registration

If your animal is microchipped, contact the chip registry to confirm your contact details are current and report the animal as missing.

5. Keep the report up to date

Check your case for sightings and possible matches. When your animal is home, close the report so people stop looking.

Questions

Does it cost anything to report a lost pet?

No. LnF Pet is 100% free, forever. We never charge to help find a lost pet.

Will my phone number be public?

Never. Communication goes through the platform until you choose to share your contact information.

Should I put my pet’s photo on posters?

We don’t put photos on posters. It helps prevent scams and makes people more willing to report a sighting when they are not sure. Matching uses species, size, colour, breed, place and time instead.
